WHAT WE DO

The Community committee is mainly public-facing

Raising awareness for the Battersea Society

We aim to increase awareness of the Battersea Society across our diverse community and promote the benefits of membership/association to members, non-members and to local businesses and organisations. In this way we augment the voice of the Battersea Society and help achieve its vision of Battersea as a great place to live and work.

Attracting and retaining members

We have a particular responsibility for attracting new members and retaining existing members but also for supporting engagement with the Society.

We participate in local activities such as street fairs in order to meet people and promote the Battersea Society.

Enabling broader participation in the community

We enable the broader participation of the Battersea Society in the community by participating in selected projects and activities that benefit the people who live and work in Battersea. These often include cultural activities and the arts; we are keen to support this dimension of the community. The Community committee also takes the lead on civic activities such as pre-election hustings.

Our recent work has included:

  • A new leaflet introducing the Battersea Society to interested members of the public

  • Market research to better understand our membership profile and members’ views of our activities, events and publications

  • Research on perceptions of the Battersea Society by non-member subscribers to Battersea Insider

  • Battersea Society presence at Battersea High Street’s Saturday morning market and participation in the 150th anniversary of Wandsworth Common

  • Support for Katherine Low Settlement’s “Explore London,” a programme to widen the horizons of refugee students of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

We would welcome new members to the committee who share our enthusiasm for enriching the role of the Battersea Society in the community.
