Battersea Society at the Battersea Community Festival

The Battersea Society was delighted to take part again in this year's Battersea Community Festival on Saturday 5 September.  The sun shone and fun was the order of the day, all impressively well organised by Enable on behalf of Wandsworth Council. The event began with a parade of the many groups involved in the Festival, beginning at the Fire Station which had its own very lively open day and walking to the venue, Shillington Park - also known to locals as Banana Park. It is a great setting, surrounded by trees, yet a mere stone's throw from Clapham Junction station. A rural feel in an urban setting.  

How well do you know Battersea?

Our information booth welcomed lots of visitors, including Marsha de Cordova MP and Councillor Emmeline Owens, Mayor of Wandsworth.  They both had a go at the new feature on our stall: Famous Battersea Landmarks - a magnetised map created by Suzanne Perkins which tests local knowledge of where to place the landmarks on the map. It drew people in before we engaged them in conversation about the Society.  

The Battersea Bee was another good conversation starter for us. Do you know the significance of the bee to Battersea?
