On the evening of Thursday 16 July the Battersea Society held its annual summer party. With a backdrop of the beautiful Georgian St Mary’s Church, and a high tide on the river, the evening was set fair.
The weather was delightfully warm after a stifling week of heatwave. As the evening drew on, the beginnings of a rosy sunset lit the crowd of 120 happy Society members and their friends as they chatted and mingled over delicious snacks and wine. Junction Jazz provided a vibrant musical accompaniment to the festivities.

We were honoured to have Marsha de Cordova, Battersea’s MP, as our guest. She gave a short speech on some of the highlights of her recent Parliamentary experiences and congratulated the Society on our success in the Glassmills appeal. Now that Parliament is in recess Marsha plans to spend even more time in her constituency before taking a well-earned break.

Jenny Sheridan, the Society’s chair, thanked everyone who had contributed to making the party such a success. Stephen Hall, treasurer of St Mary’s Church, reminded us that next year is the church’s 250th anniversary and encouraged people to visit it.
