Community Committee
Constitutional Position
The Community Committee operates within the constitution of the Society and in particular supports two of the Society’s formal objectives, namely stimulating interest in the history, character and traditions of Battersea and engaging in, and promoting awareness of, issues of concern to the community.
To this end, the Community Committee:
Increases awareness of the Battersea Society across our diverse community and promotes the benefits of membership and association to members and non-members as well as to local businesses and organisations
Works to increase the number of Battersea Society members and followers as this gives greater weight to Battersea Society positions
Collaborates with other Battersea Society committees and local community organisations in support of projects and initiatives that benefit Battersea and the people who live and work there.
Role of the Committee
The Community committee is primarily public-facing and its role is to:
Increase membership in the Battersea Society by attracting new members and aiding retention of existing members
Increase awareness of the Battersea Society and encourage engagement by both members and non-members through, for example, social media and Battersea Insider
Participate in local activities such as street fairs in order to raise awareness of and promote the Battersea Society
Participate in selected community initiatives to increase the Battersea Society’s representation and engagement
Collaborate and work with other local organisations and networks whose activities and values are aligned with those of the Battersea Society
From time to time undertake surveys of members and/or non-members to better understand our strengths and weaknesses as an organisation.
The Committee is delegated by the Executive of the Society to undertake these tasks. As required by the constitution, the Committee always has at least one trustee amongst its membership.
