A Battersea Society Commemorative Plaque to honour Edith and Elsa Lanchester
Socialist feminist Edith (1871-1966) protested against patriarchal marriage laws by announcing her intention to co-habit, resulting in her incarceration in the Priory Asylum.
Elsa (1902-1986) was a singer, cabaret dancer and a major Hollywood actor in a career spanning sixty years from silent movies, Bride of Frankenstein in 1935 to Mary Poppins and Murder by Death.
