The book for discussion is:  Christ Stopped at Eboli by Carlo Levi by Carlo Levi.  It was published in 1945 in Italian and gives an account of his exile from 1935-1936 to Grassano and Aliano, remote towns in Southern Italy.  The locals of the area described it as Christ stopped at Eboli because they felt overlooked and forgotten.  That region of Italy did not completely support Mussolini and looked instead towards America as a beacon of hope and prosperity.
