Wandsworth London Borough of Culture is launched

Welcome to Wandsworth
Monday 25 February, Wandsworth’s London Borough of Culture (LBOC) was launched to the press and the artists and community organisations who are at the heart of the endeavour. It was standing room only and still an overflow crowd in the Grand Hall of Battersea Arts Centre. In his opening remarks, leader of the Council Simon Hogg described Wandsworth’s LBOC as having something for everyone and reminded us that arts and culture keep our borough vibrant, its residents active and healthy and also supports local businesses.

New Branding
The audience were treated to a variety of performances, a taste of what’s to come. Public events kick off 26 April with “Strictly Wandsworth,” a celebration of dance in Battersea Park. The overall theme for Wandsworth’s time as London Borough of Culture is “Welcome to Wandsworth: Culture Connects Us.” The branding developed for it has proved so vibrant and popular that the Council has adopted it for the Council as a whole, as already seen on its main website.

Coming Events
The Battersea Society has been an enthusiastic supporter of Wandsworth’s bid from the beginning. You’ll see us as part of the Wandsworth Heritage Festival and leading other events and activities through the year which runs from April 2025-March 2026.
