The Battersea Society: Planning Committee submission The Battersea Society website

Planning Committee Submission

Submission to Wandsworth Borough Council

1-5 Gowrie Road, 2017/3273

The Battersea Society objects to this fresh application for a design which appears to be larger and even less suited to its surroundings than the approved design.  There is very little open space provided, the lightwell is far too large and the lack of off-street parking is to be deprecated.

No justification for the change is given, other than it enables the developer to add units.

We are really surprised that the developer, Languard Developments, based in Webbs Road, with an architect based in Barmouth Road, can claim that:

Zinc cladding and Aluminium powder coated windows [are] materials [which] reflect those most commonly used on new buildings and as such would integrate successfully with the adjoining properties.

It is true that these materials are used by Languard Developments but in our experience their use of zinc, notably at 513 Battersea Park Road, has given rise to considerable disquiet from neighbours and from ourselves.  That was made worse, as in this instance, by a post-approval application to increase the size of the proposed building work which was unfortunately approved.

We were disappointed that the earlier proposal for this site was approved but urge Wandsworth Council not to make a bad situation worse by approving this larger application.
