Winstanley Outline Application: 2019/0024

The Battersea Society has made its views known throughout the evolution of the design and we appreciate the time the regeneration team has given us.

However despite this background, we consider asking ourselves or others to respond to such an extensive quantity of material is quite unrealistic.  This view was made forcibly at the last Community Planning Forum and we stand by comments made by ourselves and others at that meeting.  This quantity of material is an inherent problem of hybrid applications of this kind.  We consider a separate application for the final master plan, followed by separate and discrete applications for elements of the masterplan once approved, would be preferable.

We do still have major reservations about aspects of the designs, the massive increase in the size of the development, apparently driven by the developer; and the amount of affordable housing provided.  We were saddened to read that a proposal to increase affordable units by a mere 290 was recently rejected by the Council.

In detailed terms we are particularly concerned about the York Road towers and traffic circulation in and around the estate.  Allied to this is, of course, our continued concern about the sheer numbers likely to use Clapham Junction and other public transport – already substantially overcrowded.

We will continue to engage with this development as individual plans come forward.
