Planning Committee Submission

Submission to Wandsworth Borough Council
Added on: 6 December 2017 at 17:53:22

Telephone Box Battersea Bridge Rd (O/S Musgrave Court) 2017/5875

The Battersea Society objects to this proposal for an intrusive advertising site and to the fact that it appears that the Council has already, without as far as we know any public consultation, committed to approving at least 27 of the 75 mooted for Wandsworth.

The applicant has engaged in a detailed pre-application process as part of a planning performance agreement. This has included engagement with the Local Authority including planning, highways and conservation officers and a detailed site visit to ensure the locations were appropriate. We also engaged with Transport for London who assessed the sites and confirmed that they raised no highways or development programme concerns. Finally, town centre managers and crime prevention officers also fed into the proposals. This application is one of twenty-seven sites that have been considered to be appropriate following the pre-application discussions.

There is no evidence given that the current phone box is a hot spot of anti-social behaviour.  If the wi-fi is attractive as is suggested, the reverse may be true with groups clustering on the heavily trafficked pavement.

It is not clear how this relates to the installation proposed for the same site, 2017/5886

We question the use which will be made of this given the number of people with mobile phones  and the relatively unattractive venue provided for any sustained internet use this pillar will provide.

If similar installations have been installed elsewhere it would have been useful to have evidence of the use made of these.  We very much doubt that this facility is needed, other than for private gain, and we very much hope that this, and the many other applications made, will be rejected.
