The Battersea Society: Planning Committee submission Welcome to the Battersea Society website

Planning Committee Submission

Submission to Wandsworth Borough Council

Land R/O 13 Thurleigh Road SW12 8UB ( 2019/5447)

The Battersea Society objects to this application which essentially repeats that submitted last year (2019/0946) and which was rightly refused. The refusal was supported at appeal.

The Battersea Society believes that the Council was correct in its assessment that the proposal constitutes changes significantly above what was considered within the original application and therefore would fail to be minor in nature.

  • by reason of its design, scale and siting would result in a prominent, visually intrusive and incongruous form of development that would be out of keeping with the streetscene and locality.

  • would fail to physically integrate with its surroundings, would detract from the local spatial character, and harm the character and appearance of this part of the Wandsworth Common Conservation Area.

  • would therefore be contrary to the NPPF (2019), policies DMS1 (General development principles) and DMS2 (Managing the historic environment) of the Development Management Policies Document (2016) and the Supplementary Planning Document: Housing (2016).

We sympathise with residents who believe that Mr Church’s repeated applications constitute an abuse of the planning system, and urge that the proposal should again be refused
