The Battersea Society: Planning Committee submission Welcome to the Battersea Society website

Planning Committee Submission

Submission to Wandsworth Borough Council

Battersea Park Station, 2020/0453

The Battersea Society objects strongly to this proposal to add 4 advertising panels to the entrance hall of this Grade II listed station. The visual clutter would be both anachronistic and unnecessary. It would be a distraction to passengers and would not offer any useful information beyond that already available. We are pleased that at last there are plans (albeit far into the future) for improvements to this station.  Until this happens the hall should be kept tidy and clutter-free.

We do not agree that “The submission would be unlikely to have significant detriment to the historic and architectural aspects of the building, and subsequently should be deemed an appropriate development within station.” Or that “The public benefit exceeds any perceived harm to the setting of the historic building”.

This application is contrary to Policy DMS2 b in that these additions would not “sustain, conserve … or enhance the significance, appearance, character and setting of the heritage asset”.  It should be refused.

We are disappointed to read that pre-application advice has given tacit approval to the application and trust that this is not the case.
