The Battersea Society is grateful for the additional information on the average daylight factor for each block within plot E but remain concerned that the acceptable minimum is not reached for 85 rooms within block E4, given that this minimum at 1.5% will still, according to one set of data we have read, provide rooms which at under 2% ‘look gloomy with electric lighting needed most of the day’.

It appears that the daylight levels for block E4, the drop in block now added to the scheme,  are further reduced by ‘the close proximity of Plot F across New Mill Road’.  We realise it is simplistic of us to suggest that the outlook for both blocks E1, 2 and 3 and plot F would be improved if this drop in were removed from the plans.  This might also provide greater amenity space at ground level and avoid the need for balconies, which themselves reduce daylight for rooms below them.

We understand that there is a need for additional housing in Wandsworth, in particular for social rented and other affordable dwellings, but meeting this need should not be at the expense of providing acceptable housing standards.
