Planning Committee Submission

Submission to Wandsworth Borough Council

The Battersea Society objects to this application on the borders of Battersea.  We share the Wandsworth Society’s views that this is an overwhelming development, inappropriate for the area and one which will lead to a cumulative negative effect on the immediate area and the neighbouring areas alongside York Road.

The immediate area is served by just two bus routes – one at least, the 44, notoriously erratic.  Wandsworth Town Station is already dangerously over-crowded and it is unrealistic to think that the new residents will all be prepared to walk to Clapham Junction or across the river to Imperial Wharf.   Both, however, also overcrowded at peak times. We are at a loss to know why neither the Council nor TfL are prepared to acknowledge this current overcrowding.   Road traffic density is increasing, and will continue to do so, as consented developments, in Nine Elms, along York and Lombard Roads and in the Ram Quarter, are occupied.

It seems that each application is assessed on a stand-alone basis.  We can only assume that the Council is unconcerned about the longer term effect of their current approvals policies.
