The Battersea Society: Planning Committee submission Welcome to the Battersea Society website

Planning Committee Submission

Submission to Wandsworth Borough Council

13 Surrey Lane, 2020/1049

The Battersea Society objects to this application which contains insufficient information on which to judge the impact of the proposals on the building, its adjoining building or on the streetscape.

The drawings do not provide an adequate description of either the existing or the proposed building nor its relationship to number 15, the other half of this pair of elegant semi-detached villas.   Both existing and proposed elevations should show the adjoining (or part of) no 15 so that the effect of the proposals of the integrity of these villas is visible. A Design and Access Statement for any application for change to buildings within a conservation area is desirable but for this historic building within the Battersea Park Conservation Area it should be a pre-requisite, ideally together with a Heritage statement.  Our response to (withdrawn) application 2020/0292 also made this need clear and gave further details of the buildings.

The scant information within the application form is wholly inadequate.  It does not state whether the extension is to the rear or the side of the building, or both.  The drawings appear to show changes to the front steps but this is not mentioned.  The addition of a glass balustrade at the rear of the building is an anachronistic and objectionable addition visible from the street and harmful to the building and to the streetscape. We note that, according to the application form, neither the applicant nor his agent has consulted the planning and conservation team at Wandsworth Council.

We further note that there is no report on the location of the cable routes to the electricity sub-station.
