The Battersea Society: Welcome to the Battersea Society website

New Catholic Secondary school further consultation period ends soon

In February Wandsworth Borough Council announced  a  further consultation on proposals to open the borough's new Catholic secondary school two years earlier than planned following feedback from the public.

This new coeducational school will replace two existing schools John Paul II in Putney and Salesian in Battersea - and will have its own sixth form.

The original plan was to open the school in 2012 but following public consultation it will now open in 2010. It will be based on both the John Paul II and Salesian sites. New intakes of year seven pupils will go to the John Paul II site only while the new school is being built. All pupils will move to the new buildings when they are finished likely to be around 2012.

The sixth form and the special needs base for pupils with autism will open when the new building is ready.

The aim is to establish the identity of the new school as soon as possible. Priority will be given to baptised Catholic pupils living in the borough.

There will be further consultation with local people throughout the planning process and their views will be taken into account in the design and layout of the new school. Plans may include special school buses and changes to access routes.

The consultation period ends on March 20. If you have any comments please email office@rcsouthwark.org.uk.
