Heathrow Airport Expansion - Public Meeting Tuesday 5 February

The government is currently consulting on its plans for expanding Heathrow Airport. As currently set out, these proposals could greatly increase the noise from planes for Battersea residents. They include:

  • Building a third runway. This would bring in larger, noisier aircraft over south-west London.
  • Stopping the agreement which prevents aircraft from taking off to the east from both runways.
  • Increasing the annual limit on flights, so that almost double the number of current flights would affect south-west London.
  • A new terminal to serve the new runway.
Wandsworth Council has organised a public meeting in Battersea to discuss the issue and inform local residents. This will take place on Tuesday 5 February at 7.30pm at Belleville Primary School, Webbs Road. A similar meeting in Putney on 17 February attracted a packed audience of 700 people.

The government's consultation ends on 27th  February. If your quality of life would be affected by more planes overhead, the Battersea Society urges you to go along to the meeting on 5 February, and to respond to the consultation documentation before the deadline.
